Insurance
This information is for enrolled OUWB Medical Students ONLY. If you are not an OUWB student, please contact Graham Health Center at (248) 370-2341 for health insurance information.
All students are required to have health insurance coverage while enrolled in Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. Your participation in the health insurance plan is mandatory, unless you can provide proof of comparable group coverage (through your parents, spouse, etc.). Individuals wishing to decline the available Priority Health plans must submit a Proof of Health Insurance Form. Failure to comply may result in cancellation of your registration.
OUWB offers HMO and PPO Priority Health plans to students. The basic HMO (Core plan) is free to students. The Buy-Up HMO and PPO plans offer a higher and broader level of coverage at an additional cost to the student. To enroll in any plan an enrollment form must be filled out.
Dental and Vision Coverage
OUWB does not offer dental and vision coverage to students. If you are interested in obtaining an individual dental or vision plan please visit the following websites below:
- Delta Dental: http://www.deltadental.com/us/en/individual-and-family.html
- Davis Vision: http://www.davisvision.com/
Students may elect additional coverage for their spouse and/or dependent(s) for either program at their own cost.
Each year during the annual enrollment period, eligible students enroll, dis-enroll, and add or delete dependents from the plan. It is important that you consider your elections carefully since changes to those elections can generally only be made during a subsequent annual enrollment period. Exceptions will be made if you experience a qualified Life Status Change.
Students who wish to participate in the OUWB insurance plan need to submit an enrollment form. The deadline to submit forms for the 2024-2025 academic year is Friday, August 9, 2024. Please return completed forms to Katy Torma in the CMSS located in 216 O’Dowd Hall or via fax at (248) 370-2767 or email ([email protected]).
The 2024-2025 Health Insurance Guide along with tools to help you choose your coverage can be found on the OUWB Health Care MedSync page.
The payments for Buy Up plans or dependent coverage are due each semester on August 15 and January 15. Payments can be made through the Oakland University Online MarketPlace (link to come soon).

Graham Health Center & OU Counseling
The Graham Health Center is an outpatient clinic geared to the needs of Oakland students, including those enrolled in OUWB. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants see patients on an appointment and walk-in basis. The physicians, who are not on the faculty at OUWB, are available for consultation when necessary.
The Graham Health Center provides a complete range of primary health care for the prevention and treatment of illness and injury with a focus on health promotion. The Graham Health Center offers many preventive care services and programs throughout the year. All students are encouraged to have an annual wellness exam to stay up-to-date on preventative healthcare including, but not limited to age-appropriate cancer screenings, contraceptive care, HIV/STD screening, cholesterol screening, smoking cessation, alcohol and other substance abuse programs.
The Graham Health Center also offers allergy management, medication, immunizations, and laboratory testing. All health records are kept in the secure Electronic Medical Record on site at the health facility and are not a part of the student’s academic record. Individuals outside of the Graham Health Center cannot receive information about a student’s record without the written consent of the student. Medical students are directed to Ascension Providence Rochester (not a teaching site for OUWB) for emergency care at night and on weekends and holidays. All students must be covered by the Oakland health insurance plan or show proof of comparable insurance coverage. The health insurance plans offered through OUWB are in-network with Graham Health Center.
OU Counseling Center - Personal counseling is provided by the professionals at the OU Counseling Center, located in the Graham Health Center. Licensed psychologists, counselors, and social workers who have no teaching role in the medical school provide confidential services. The first four counseling sessions are free and subsequent sessions are $20. The counseling center provides individual and couples counseling, crisis intervention, consultations, outreach, and a variety of support groups.
